Located about six miles down the Halfmoon Road, Emerald Lake is a day use picnic and fishing area in a shady lodgepole pine forest. Yesterday’s travellers were adventurers in search of the extraordinary, and that’s exactly what Legendary guide Tom Wilson found when he first stumbled across this small gem of a lake – famed for its jade-coloured waters – in 1882 during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Shore lunches where fish and food are cooked over an open fire are especially delicious. We encourage our guests to enjoy eating while they are here when the fish are at their very best freshness and taste.
The best eating size fish: walleye 15 – 18 inches, perch 9 – 12 inches and northern pike 22 – 28 inches. It is true that we were not paddling all the time, but in an hour we did not have time to explore even half of the lake. Emerald Lake is not only the prettiest, but it is also the largest lake in Yoho. However, it is worth it, since it is the best way to see the real size and brightness of Emerald Lake. It’s when meal-seeking walleye will often swim up from deep water onto shallow flats to feed on schools of minnow and small prey. Hours near dawn and dusk are often the best time to fish for walleye. Weedless lures are recommended as the pond is heavily vegetated. Largemouth bass are abundant but tend to be on the small side, however, a few fish in the 20-inch range are caught each year. Long Pond is a very popular ice fishing location for chain pickerel and panfish. When fishing, anglers can expect to catch a variety of fish including Bluegill, Brown Bullhead, Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Walleye, Yellow Perch and Pumpkinseed. Long Pond is located in Wayne County, Pennsylvania.
Long Pond has produced Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Bluegill, Rock Bass, Black Crappie, Yellow Perch, Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Tiger Trout, and Rainbow Trout that meet minimum sizes for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program. The community is located near Interstates 80 and 380. Emerald Lakes is a census-designated place located in Tobyhanna and Tunkhannock Townships in Monroe County in the state of Pennsylvania.
